Introduction to HVAC System

A Brief Introduction to HVAC System

HVAC, or Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning is a vast discipline. HVAC systems Cooling equipment ranges from modest household units to 10,000-times-larger refrigeration machines.

This post will go over the key principles that designers utilize to make decisions about system design, operation, and maintenance.

We will learn the following objectives in this post:

1. Describe HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning).

2. Describe the functions of HVAC.

3. Identify and explain the seven major air-conditioning processes.

4. Identify five major features of a space that influence the comfort of its occupants.

HVAC'S History

The word "air conditioning" has steadily evolved from simply cooling to the entire control of:

1. Temperature

2. The amount of moisture in the air (humidity)

3. Outside air supply for ventilation

4. Filtration of particulates in the air

5. Movement of air in the occupied space

Since 1900, air-conditioning technology has evolved as a result of the collaboration of science and engineering. The advancements in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, electricity, electronics, construction, materials, medical, controls, and social behavior are the foundations for better-engineered air conditioning devices.

Modern HVAC's Scope

1. Indoor air quality is one that has a direct impact on humans. Indoor air quality in buildings is too bad and unsatisfactory in many countries. The causes and consequences of poor quality are exceedingly complicated.

2. Concerns over greenhouse gas emissions and the depletion of the earth's protective ozone layer are driving study. New guidelines are being developed to encourage recycling, reduced energy consumption, and the use of low-polluting products, particularly refrigerants. All of these factors have an impact on building design, particularly HVAC systems.

3. Finding novel strategies to cut consumption in new and existing buildings without sacrificing energy conservation is a continuous problem.

An Overview of Air-Conditioning Processes

There are seven major stages that must be completed in order to obtain full air conditioning. These procedures are as follows:

1. Heating—the process of adding thermal energy to an area in order to raise or maintain its temperature.

2. Cooling—the process of withdrawing thermal energy from a space in order to reduce or maintain the temperature of the space.

3. Humidification—the process of adding moisture to the air in a space in order to increase or maintain the moisture content of the air.

4. Dehumidifying—the process of eliminating moisture from the air in an area in order to reduce or maintain the moisture content.

5. Cleaning—the removal of particles and biological contaminants from the air provided to space in order to improve or maintain air quality.

6. Ventilation—the process of circulating air between the outdoors and the conditioned space in order to dilute the space's gaseous pollutants.

Natural ventilation: caused by natural draughts, such as when you open a window.

Ventilation using mechanical means. This can be accomplished by utilizing fans to bring in air from outside or fans to exhaust air from the space to the outside.

7. Air Movement—the process of circulating and mixing air through conditioned spaces in a building to ensure proper ventilation and to facilitate thermal energy transfer.
